Canaanite bronze figure of a striding god. (Baal?)
Late Bronze Age: 1550-1200 BC
Height: 9.29 cm. (3 5/8 in.) (figurine without tenon), tenon height: 1.4 cm. (0 1/2 in.)
Very fine, chipped finger in right hand. Fine green patina with red spots. Mounted.

The god is striding, frontal, wearing a tall conical crown and a short skirt. His arms are raised forward, the left with closed hand and the right with open hand.
The figure is finely modeled, the face with arched eyebrows, large almond shaped eyes, straight nose, wide mouth and large ears. The body with strong wide muscled breast, narrow waist and straight legs. The short skirt is folded, with incised details. The figure is standing on integral square stand with long tenon.
The figure resembles other Canaanite figures of gods, with the tall conical crown and short folded skirt, usually in the smiting pose, being identified as Baal (-Hadad).
