The two layered gemstone is carved in relief with the head of Medusa, on the frontal white layer, with the dark bluish grey layer as background. The Medusa head is depicted in high relief in three quarters position, turned in motion towards the right. The face is depicted with rounded features, framed by the curls of the snaky hair, and topped with a pair of spread wings. The eyes are looking upwards, the eyebrows arched outwards, and the mouth is closed with full lips.
Medusa, the mythological beautiful monster with the winged head and snaky hair, was considered a charm for good luck, protector from evil spirits.
