Roman carnelian intaglio with the head of Apollo.
1st-2nd century AD. Set in modern 18K gold ring.

The oval intaglio (ring stone) is carved with the head of Apollo in profile to right. The head with massive hair with heavy locks around the face, falling on the back of the neck, adorned with laurel wreath. The face with rounded features and long straight nose. His long neck emerges from the
folds of a garment.
Apollo, the son of Zeus and Leto, the ideal of masculine beauty, was the god of light and the sun, patron of music, poetry, and the arts. The laurel wreath was his common attribute.
