Early Islamic glass lion (zoomorphic balsamarium).
7th-9th century AD
L. 9 cm (3 1/2 in.), H. 7.5 cm (3 in.)
Repaired clean break at the back of the body, chipped at the spout.
Sold
The lion with raised vertical mane, applied eyes, upraised tail, and double zigzag trailing along the body. It is standing with lifted head and open mouth, functioning as the vessel spout. Another opening between the fore and front legs.
