The middle aged man is depicted frontal, looking slightly upwards. He has short hair with a high creased forehead, with a receding hairline on both sides, and a short beard. The oval face with frowning eyebrows, drooping eyelids, and creases below the eyes and at the sides of his mouth. The nose is arched and the mouth is straight, with a gentle smile.
The face is full of character and expression. The lines portrayed give it the sense of experience and thoughtfulness, with a melancholic air.
The figure is depicted in fine style, rich in lively and realistic detail.
