Greek Classical bronze sphinx.
5th - 4th century BC.
Height: 6.75 cm. (2 5/8 in.)
Condition: Fine, missing forelegs, end of left wing and end of tail. Fine brownish patina with green spots. Mounted..

Sphinx, the mythological animal with the winged lion’s body and woman’s head. The seated figure is finely modeled in an elegant posture, with the wings spread backwards, and the breast raised forward. The head is surrounded with two rows of round locks, the back is curved and the tail is raised in “S” shape. The wings details are finely incised.
