RB003
Roman bronze head of a man.
2nd-3rd century AD.
Height: 13.2 cm. (5 1/4 in.)
Very fine. Fragment from a life size statue, slightly deformed. Remains of gilding, fine green and brown patina. Mounted.
Sold
The man’s head is finely modeled, with engraved eyebrows. The majestic expression, the high artistic style, and the nature of the statue: a life size gilt bronze statue, suggests that this was a portrait statue of an emperor, most probably of the Severan Dynasty.
